Haunted by her father’s disappearance 30 years ago, Stella returns to her hometown to care for her ailing mother. One night, her father contacts her via an old radio. Stella must bide her time to bring him back by activating Taklee Genesis. The film offers plenty of fun moments if it doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s a sci-fi mystery based on a time travel story that combines elements of drama, comedy, horror, and fantasy. At times, it seemed like the director had a catalog of movie scenes from which he was picking random elements and inserting them. As a result, the audience gets to see a crazy gathering of aliens, dinosaurs, spaceships, zombies, Kaiju, and many other things that one wouldn’t expect. As a result, it feels like a more generic version of Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One. As with most time travel movies, plot holes are hard to avoid. There are plenty of them in this movie, often undercut by dialogue with phrases like it’s okay, don’t worry, or everything will be fine. Even though the actors seem to do their best, the acting remains another weakness of this movie. The British parent initially spoke as if he was recording a chapter of English listening comprehension for elementary school. When Whalen disappeared, the mother didn’t even shed a single tear. The funniest character of all was Mordin, the silent survivor who saves the day when everyone else despairs. Overall, our rating for Taklee Genesis is seven out of ten. We watched the original with English subtitles in a movie theater.
